Tsinghua University, National Museum of China cooperate on cultural relic protection

A joint research center was launched by Tsinghua University and the National Museum of China on Aug 3 for the scientific and technological protection of cultural relics.

Drawing on the respective strengths of the two sides, the center is intended to become an academic institution and think tank of global influence.

The center’s establishment was an important step taken by Tsinghua so it could more fully contribute its multi-disciplinary advantages and expanding interdisciplinary research to the national goal of cultural rejuvenation, said Chen Xu, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee.

According to Wang Chunfa, head of the museum, all-round cooperation in environmental monitoring of the museum's cultural relics collection, restoration of its traditional artworks, cultivation of talented personnel and in other areas will be carried out at the center.

A working conference was held on the same day as the launch ceremony. Details of the annual and five-year work plans, as well as resources needed for technological protection, were discussed.
