Tsinghua University’s undergraduate commencement ceremony was held in the Auditorium on July 5 with diplomas awarded to 3,044 students. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee Gu Binglin, Tsinghua University Council Chairman Chen Xi, as well as other university leaders, attended the ceremony and awarded degrees and certificates to the new graduates.

In his commencement address, President Gu extended congratulations to the students. He made some suggestions for them. He urged them to be innovative and contribute to the development of the nation. Then he encouraged them to have lofty ideals about life and pursue truth, goodness and  beauty. Finally, President Gu said he hoped the students would always bear in mind Tsinghua’s motto of “Self-discipline and Social Commitment” and strive for excellence in their future work and study.
