David Miller Delivers Tanner Lecture on Human Values

Widely-known British political theorist David Miller, Professor of Political Theory at Oxford University and Fellow of the British Academy, delivered the Tanner Lecture on Human Values at Tsinghua on March 24. It is the first time for the Tanner Lectures to be held in China.Professor Miller’s speech “Global Justice and Climate Change: How Should Responsibilities be Distributed”, is also part of the Tsinghua Global Vision Lectures series designed to bring students global perspectives by offering them lectures by international experts on topics of current interest.

Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin had a discussion with Professor Miller and other guests including Professor Roger Cashmore, Principal of Oxford University’s Brasenose College, and Professor Ekhard Salje, President of Cambridge University’s Clare Hall College, both Tannner Lectures trustees. Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe also attended the discussion. President Gu introduced them to Tsinghua’s efforts in energy and environmental sciences development and research. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation in these fields.

Professor Miller answered questions from the students after his speech. Professor Chen Zuwei and Professor Ci Jiwei from University of Hong Kong, Professor Daniel Bell from Tsinghua, and Professor Dan Gutmann from Peking University were invited to be commentators for the lecture.
