The Ministry of Education announced at its Committee of Scientific and Technology meeting held in Beijing on December 19 that Professor Zhang Boming’s New Generation Energy Management System with Three Dimensional Coordination, Key Innovations and Applications for the Electric Power Grid Project in the Department of Electrical Engineering was selected as one of the Chinese Universities Ten Great Scientific Achievements for 2007.

Supported by the National Priority Basic Research of China Special Fund and the Nature Science Foundation of China, Professor Zhang’s research team conducted research for 15 years to develop and implement a world leading new generation energy management system.

A landmark achievement, the system was implemented as a first in the world automatic early warning and optimal closed loop control system for an electric power control center. The new system significantly improves the secure and economic operation of China’s electric power grid.
