Three outstanding faculty were recruited recently including Professor Zhang Zhijun, Professor Liu Lei, and Professor Cheng Nong.

(Professor Zhang Zhijun)

Zhang Zhijun received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, in 1992 and 1995 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in 1999. From 1999 to 2001, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Utah, where he was appointed a Research Assistant Professor in 2001. In 2002, he was an Assistant Researcher with the University of Hawaii. He joined Amphenol T&M Antennas in late 2002, as a Senior Staff Antenna Development Engineer and was promoted to the position of Antenna Engineer Manager in early 2004. In 2004, he joined Nokia Inc. as a Senior Antenna Design Engineer. In 2006, He joined Apple Inc. as a Senior Antenna Design Engineer and was promoted to Principal Antenna Engineer in 2007. Since August 2007 he has been with Tsinghua University, China, as a Professor.

(Professor Liu Lei)

Dr. Liu Lei obtained his college degree at University of Science and Technology of China in 1999, where he worked in the laboratory of Prof. Qing-Xiang Guo for three years focusing on the study of physical organic chemistry. Subsequently he went to New York City to work with Prof. Ronald Breslow at Columbia University, where he obtained his PhD degree in 2004 focusing on the study of artificial enzymes. From 2004 to 2007 he worked as a research associate in the laboratory of Prof. Chi-Huey Wong at the Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, where he did some studies on glycoproteins and carbohydrate medicines. In 2007 Dr. Lei Liu was recruited by Tsinghua University as a full professor in the Chemistry Department. At the same time he was also appointed as an adjunct full professor by University of Science and Technology of China. His current research interests include both bioorganic chemistry and physical organic chemistry. Up to now Prof. Lei Liu has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in a variety of scientific journals including J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem., and Chem. Rev. His papers has been widely cited for over 1200 times by the other authors.

(Professor Cheng Nong)

Cheng Nong graduated from the Aero-gyro& Inertial Navigation Division of Automatic Control Department of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) with Bachelor’s Degree in 1982, and since was allocated to Flight Automatic Control Research Institute in Xi’an. She has been there engaging in the research of strapdown inertial navigation system and integrated navigation in the field of aviation technology for years. She was granted Master’s Degree in Northwest Poly-technique University (NPU) in 1992, specialized in aero-gyro& Inertial Navigation. In 2007, She was engaged as a researcher in the Department of Automatization of Tsinghua University. Cheng Nong has been responsible for or taken part in 12 key programs in the area of the national defense, ever acting as the subject director, leader of R&D team, program director-level designer, and deputy chief system designer. During the seventh and eighth Five-Year Plans, as the leading R&D researcher, she participated in the nation’s key defense research project and was assigned as the director of the project in the later stage. During the ninth and tenth Five-Year Plans, she took charge of the development of strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) and SINS-based integrated navigation system, from which SINS/GPS integrated navigation systems for UAV, helicopter, trainer and missile applications were derived.
